Wild Yam, also known as Dioscorea villosa, is a perennial vine native to North America and parts of Asia. The root of the plant is used for medicinal purposes. Wild Yam has been traditionally used to help reduce symptoms of menstrual cramps and to help reduce symptoms of menopause, it is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. It is also traditionally used to help improve digestive health and to help reduce symptoms of bloating, gas, and indigestion, it is believed to have carminative properties. Wild Yam is also believed to have anti-spasmodic properties and may help to reduce symptoms of muscle spasms. Wild Yam is also believed to have antioxidant properties and may help to protect cells from damage.
