Vitex berries, also known as Vitex agnus-castus or Chasteberry, is a perennial shrub native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia. The berries of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. Vitex berries have been traditionally used to help improve women's hormonal health and to help reduce symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause, it is believed to have an effect on the pituitary gland, which can help regulate the production of hormones. It is also traditionally used to help improve fertility and to help reduce symptoms of irregular menstrual cycles, it is believed to have an effect on the balance of estrogen and progesterone. Vitex berries are also believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and may help to protect cells from damage.
