Peppermint, also known as Mentha x piperita, is a perennial herb native to Europe and Asia. The leaves of the plant are used for medicinal and culinary purposes. Peppermint has been traditionally used to help improve digestion and to help reduce symptoms of bloating and gas, it is believed to have carminative properties. It is also traditionally used to help reduce symptoms of headaches, migraines and to help reduce symptoms of pain, it is believed to have analgesic properties. Peppermint is also traditionally used to help reduce symptoms of respiratory issues such as asthma and bronchitis, it is believed to have expectorant properties. Peppermint is also believed to have antiviral properties and may help to protect against cold sores and herpes.
